Happy Independence Day!
SILENT RANKS
I wear no uniforms, no blues or army green. But I am in the military in the ranks rarely seen. I have no rank upon my shoulders. Salutes I do not give. But the military world is the place where I live. I’m not in the chain of command, orders I do not get. But my husband is the one who does, this I cannot forget. I’m not the one who fires the weapon, who puts my life on the line. But my job is just as tough. I’m the one that’s left behind. My husband is a patriot, a brave and pride-filled man. And the call to serve his country not all can understand. Behind the lines I see the things needed to keep this country free. My husband makes the sacrifice, but so do our kids and me. I love the man I married. The military is his life. But I stand among the silent ranks known as the Military Wife.

Whenever i see someone in uniform, I always make a point to thank them for their service. Never once has someone seemed annoyed by my interruption. I appreciate that they go in my place. In my husband's place. My little BABY brother joined the Air Force and over all the fear i felt for him, I felt amazingly proud of him. I feel the same about all of our service men and women. Happy Birthday America, and thank you to all of you who serve our country, either on the "frontlines" or the "sidelines" as a military spouse/family member.
I, too, always thank service men and women when I see them and I was prepared to say the same thing when I arrived over here. My children have been raised to believe these people are heroes that serve our nation and do what is asked, quietly without complaint yet brave and modest. My children stay away from strangers, but hug all soldiers.
Thank you for this tribute. My dad is a Viet Nam vet and to this date cannot speak openly about what he witnessed and endured.
Thanks for the sacrifices, for the tears, for the courage, for the selflessness of the soldiers and especially the families. The mothers who raised the brave, the wives and husbands who love the brave, and the children who worship the brave.
We pray every night for God to protect, support, and comfort the soldiers and their families.

As an "Air Force Brat" I really appreciate you including my dad on that list. After 24 years, he was medically retired, but nothing to do with his service, thank goodness.
